It is my privilege to write to you as the Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University. The University has a large pool of illustrious alumni spread over the entire world. Many of them are members of the various alumni associations and alumni chapters formed in different parts of the country and abroad. With the intention to remain connected with the alumni associations and also with any individual alumni, Jadavpur University Executive Council resolved to set up an Alumni Cell under the University administration. At the moment, the Alumni Cell, with a number of faculty members and University officers as members, is functioning under the leadership of the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Amitava Datta.
Giving back to the alma mater remains a matter of pride to all the alumni. Over the years, many of the alumni of the University have come forward to give back to the University through the associations in which they are the members, as particular pass-out batches or in their individual capacities. The newly formed Alumni Cell will help in maintaining a liaison between the alumni associations, individual alumni and the departments, and help the departments and schools in executing various projects supported by the alumni. It will maintain a central documentation of the alumni donations and monitor the utilization of the fund for fast implementation of the projects. Donors will also be able to track the utilization of their support through the Alumni Cell.
Alumni Cell will also act as a communication channel between the University and the alumni or the alumni associations for the mutual benefit of all. It will communicate various news and achievements of the University and also the requirements of the University and its students. At the same time, the alumni can transfer important information to the University which may help the present students in their academics and progression. The communication can be through a separate webpage of the Cell in the University website or directly through emails to the Cell. The Cell is also developing a database of the alumni by collecting their contacts and other details.
Alumni Cell will work as a medium through which alumni from any part of the world can contact the University for any particular requirement of their own. It will act as a nodal point of the University for resolving issues of the alumni in connection with the University.
